An Ellis Henshaw is shown in the 1850 census, Mariposa County, California (page 55, sheet B, line 21, dwelling #125, family #125, enumerated Oct 30 1850):^b

Henshaw, Ellis, age 25, born in North Carolina; occupation: miner.

Ellis is shown living together with many miners in what appears to have been a boarding house. In the same 1850 census there is an Elles Henshaw, also in Mariposa County:^c

Henshaw, Elles, age 24, born in North Carolina; occupation: miner.

This also appears to be a boarding house. It is possible that perhaps this same Ellis was enumerated twice.
