After pressing faults and delays we can finally let you know the KYOKO CD is ready. 11 tracks of slo-fi pop genius from former Beatnik Filmstars people. Should be available mid-December through the usual distributors. If you are having trouble finding anything, please email me and I'll try and point you in the right direction. I'm still in the USA and as such 555 mailorder is still not operating, so please don't send any money to the old PO Box address. It just confuses my poor Mum who's doing a great job at running my business whilst I'm off doing my Steward thing... (You can write to my Mum at the PO Box, though, if you want). I have also SOLD OUT of pretty much everything in the catalogue. I know different distros have different amounts of different titles, so check around if you are after a specific release...
Forthcoming releases early 2001. These wil be on the new 555 Recordings of Philadelphia USA imprint. (There will eventually be a new mailing address sometime next year)
SAUCER CD (555CD25) At long last, this is finally happening. We've been teasing you for 2 years now. Well worth the wait. Beautiful minimal sparse pop in a Velvets/Galaxie 500 vein.
JOAN OF ASS EP (555LP26) Romy from Lolita Storm + her dirty girlfriend cooking up some very sexy beats and filth. Hopefuly this will be an X-rated picture disc release. We've warned you, OK?
KNOWING WE WAS RIGHT FROM DA START (555CD27) Compliation CD of various bits from the first 20 7-inches and 10 LPs.
There may be a few other bits and bobs. I'm pressing these whilst I'm in Australia, so release date is unknown. Hopefully Jan/Feb next year...
STEWARD news:
New releases: Bang There Goes My Youth new CD on Blackbean and Placenta, available Jan 2001. Steward Australian Tour 7-inch EP on Chapter Music, recorded with Pat Maley in the famous YoYo studios in Olympia USA. Featuring Jen Turrell, available Jan/Feb 2001.
Just a quick note to let you know that in addition to STEWARD and A Boy Named Thor's radio appearance on Nov. 21 on KFJC, they will also be on the air at 2:00 P.M. on the 22nd, the day after, on KALX, interviewed by me. Both shows are listenable over the web. Check the stations' websites for details.
A few notes: Most of the new releases are out now and should be in shops already, or very shortly. The STEWARD and KYOKO CDs will be coming a few weeks later though, due to pressing and shipping mishaps. Also, Stewart and co. will be playing quite a few dates in the USA, so check the live section and go see them if you can! Lastly, the long-awaited final EMPRESS EP/CD on Stephen Pastel's Geographic label is out, so look for it in your local shop.
Correction: The CD version of The Cannanes "Communicating..." LP will be released by YoYo Recordings on 31 October, not January of next year as originally reported. Apologies to Mr. Patrick Maley.
Please note, 555 Mailorder is closing down as of October 2000. Please do not send any stuff to the PO Box as I won't be able to respond. You can contact me via email if you have a specific query. STEWARD is off playing shows all over the place and will be out of the country for 6 months/a year at least. But panic not, as Phil at Norman Records will be handling all mailorder enquires, and Cargo UK and Darla (amongst others) will have plenty of our new releases to tempt you with. There is a lot, so I'll keep it brief:
Available mid-September:
55531 LONG WEEKEND Mould 7" EP
Second release from Melbourne girl trio. 3 tracks of shimmering guitar and beautiful vocals.
55530 THE AISLERS SET / THE HOW split 7"
It's difficult to imagine Amy + Co doing any wrong, as this single will surely prove. New boys The How (Feat. Matt ex-of Henry's Dress) deliver a mod-punk adrenaline burst that'll make you want to smash things up (we hope). A co-release with Slumberland Records.
55529 PISSTANK / LESSER split 7"
Electronic noise fest with the endearing Pisstank who'll totally fuck your head (and your stereo). Lesser certainly knows how to charm the boys in the 555 mailroom with his fantastic take on Adam And The Ants' "Kings Of The Wild Frontier". Not for the faint hearted.
555LP24 HOOD vs. DUO 14
4 remixes that were meant to come out ages ago (on a different label, I might add). Luckily, 555 are here to pick up the slack and give the kids what they want, only a year after they wanted it. A 10" EP.
555LP23 CEX Role Playa
After the runaway success of the debut 7" for 555, Cexyboy Rjyan is back with a tasty 8 track treat. Clever and thrilling beats. You know you need it. A co-release with Tigerbeat6 and available on cexy
blue vinyl.
555CD22 KYOKO Co-incidental Music
Ex-Beatnik Filmstars new project. Smooth and quiet instrumentation, with dazzling vocal delivery from Andrew Jarrett (his best yet!). 11 tracks.
555LP21 THE CANNANES Communicating at an Unknown Rate
I can't get too gushy about the Cannanes as I'm drumming for them on their next US tour, but suffice to say I'm more than excited about releasing their next full length. Hopefully this release will be a picture disc. The CD version will be released by YoYo in January 2001.
555CD20 STEWARD Horselaugh on My Ex
An all star Steward line-up this time around with contributions from many of his very talented friends. 20 tracks.
REPRESSES:
555CD16 CHIHUAHUAS AND CHINESE NOODLES
555LP10 KID606 GQ on the EQ 10"
55528 CEX Get Your Bad Ass On 7" EP
So, there you go. If you DO want to order from us please do so BEFORE OCTOBER 2000. Any orders recieved after this won't be processed, as I won't be in Leeds. Please check the list of distributors on our catalogue page and, if in doubt, buy from them.
Also, these titles are to be withdrawn at the end of September. If you want any, please order now before the Mike Nichols bonfire commences:
55519 HALKYN Behind the Snow (back in stock-but not for long)
55517 LONG WEEKEND Thin Lipped Song 7" EP
55514 ANDREW BEAUJON AND WOMEN IN ROCK
55509 NEW BAD THINGS Mabel 7" EP
55508 MIKE NICHOLS IS A WANKER Soda Glass 7" EP
55506 SISTERHOOD OF CONVOLUTED THINKERS King Me 7" EP
555CD8 THE REMOTE VIEWER
555LP6 THE SISTERHOOD OF CONVOLUTED THINKERS
555LP2 HULABOY As Tight as an Owl With The Hulaboy
555LP1 STEWARD Get Me A Seat Next To Someone Nice
Thats all the 555 release news. Other upcoming releases by 555 artists on other labels include 2 different 12" EPs by THE REMOTE VIEWER, one for Domino and one for Atomic. Both of these will be released in September, as will the long delayed EMPRESS LP/CD on Stephen Pastel's Geographic label. After a shaky year of teasing you all I can declare Empress are officially dead. There will be a CD re-issue of the Homeward Sounds EP on Pehr later in the year.
Hello friends, four new sparkly releases, fresh sounds from the underground and straight into your hearts at number one.
55528 CEX Get Your Badass On 7" EP (orange vinyl)
Debut UK release from 18 year old hotly tipped electro whizzkid Cex. Very cexy. Cut up beats counterbalanced with sweet melodic structure. Forthcoming material on the Tigerbeat6 label (Kid606, etc.). 3 tracks.
55527 DOWNPOUR Don't Go Breaking My Art 7" EP (pink vinyl)
Another debut UK release from Leeds' very own Downpour, the harsh electronic outlet for HOOD's very own C. Adams. Previous releases have been 2 highly regarded 12" EPs on the San Francisco Dropbeat label. This EP sees Adams continuing his venture into harsh plunder-phonics whilst retaining his sense of chaos and his sense of humour. 4 tracks.
555LP18 HUON Disco Square 10" LP (gold vinyl)
Everyone's favourite Melbourne based shamble pop art supergroup return (and oh so quickly) with another winner. Continuing their dabble into disco and hot on the heels of the recent Tragedy 7". Break out the boob tubes and flares and get on down, baby. 8 tracks.
555CD16 CHIHUAHUAS AND CHINESE NOODLES An Electronic Remix Compilation
Much anticipated, finally out. Present and future 555 stars remix each other with exceptional results:
HOOD, THIRD EYE FOUNDATION, STEWARD, CEX, KID606, TEAM DOYOBI, ACCELERA DECK, EMPRESS, JOSHUA TREBLE, ~ERROR, SISTERHOOD OF CONVOLUTED THINKERS, AMY LINTON, JEAN BACH, THE REMOTE VIEWER, STYROFOAM, DOWNPOUR, FATHER, TIN FOIL STAR.
COMING REALLY SOON:
555LP19 THE AISLERS SET The Last Match LP (blue vinyl)
Delayed due to DAT problems, should have it next week. So hang on if you can, unless you have the US Slumberland version already, of course.
Also next week, a repress of the ACCELERA DECK LP (555LP17)
IMPORTANT:
Stewart is off travelling again doing his STEWARD thing and playing drums for
Girlboy Girl on the West Coast of America in July/August, so if you do order from us please be patient if I don't get back to you straight away (distros contact me now!). If you can't wait, you can get our records though CARGO DISTRIBUTION in the UK or DARLA in the USA.
Or try Norman Records mailorder in the UK. Phil will be taking over the 555 Mailorder in October when Stewart is off again, this time for at least 7 months. He's got some great records by other labels too. Email him at: phil@normanrecords.com
Another plug whilst I'm at it: Meridiens mailorder in France have lots of our older titles, many of which we dont have copies of and people ask us about. So, for all you collector scum snapping up our back catalogue you can maybe fill your gaps by contacting them at meridien5m36est@hotmail.com.
OK, many thanks. Please refer to our catalogue for a list of current titles available. Please note the KID606/LSR 7" has sold out, as has the KID606 10".
Available now:
55524 AMY LINTON + STEWART ANDERSON 7" EP
55526 HUON Tragedy 7" EP (silver vinyl)
Electronic whizkid CEX has recorded a 7" EP for us (55528). It should be out in June, and on orange vinyl, too. In fact, we have gone colour vinyl crazy along with a slew of new June releases, namely:
55527 DOWNPOUR Dont Go Breaking My Art 7" EP (pink vinyl!)
555LP19 THE AISLERS SET The Last Match (blue vinyl)
555LP18 HUON Disco Square 10" (gold vinyl)
555CD16 VARIOUS ARTISTS Chihuahuas and Chinese Noodles, the long awaited remix cd featuring HOOD, THE REMOTE VIEWER, CEX, Kid606, THIRD EYE FOUNDATION, STEWARD, JOSHUA TREBLE, ACCELERA DECK, TIN FOIL STAR, JEAN BACH, DOWNPOUR, TEAM DOYOBI, STYROFOAM, EMPRESS, AMY LINTON, ~ERROR, THE SISTERHOOD OF CONVOLUTED THINKERS and FATHER.
SAUCER have promised us their record (a 10" mini-LP) for a September release. Should feature vocals from Nicola the Empress. It's being recorded, at last, right about now. (We've only been asking them for 2 years to do a record...)
Confirmed releases for later this year: STEWARD full length, LONG WEEKEND 7", more CANNANES, PISSTANK/LSR split 7" and a compialtion CD of some of the hits from the 1st 19 singles and 10 full lengths.
***Please note***
The remaining stock of titles 55506-55517 and 555LP1-555CD8 are in limited supply and will be withdrawn in September 2000. If you wish to own these titles in their entirety please order now before we build a big bonfire of all those unsold MIKE NICHOLS singles.
EMPRESS play what may well be their reunion and/or break up show on 13th of June supporting The Rachels at Leeds Brudenell Social Club. The long-delayed Geographic mini-LP/CD will be released the last week of June. There's talk of a few other shows before Stewart nicks off to America in July, and maybe a Peel Session, too.
New Releases:
555LP17 ACCELERA DECK Conviction and Crack LP
Mr. Accelera a.k.a. Chris Jeely keeps pumping out his stuff, which is, of course, beautiful floaty melodic electronica. Previously issued as a limited CD-R, 555 pick up the slack and offer it up on wax.
UK £6 / Europe £7 / Rest Of World £8
55523 THE CANNANES "William" c/w "Miserable" 7"
After 15 years of trawling the international pop underground, The Cannanes come across with the goods once more. Features amazing trumpet from Hairy O'Neil as well as trademark breath-taking vocal from Fran. The first new Cannanes material in yonks. A new full length is due on 555 later this year.
UK £2.50 / Europe £3 / Rest Of World £3.50
55525 KID606 / LSR European Tour 7"
Remaining copies of what was the tour EP that we can dish up to all you poor souls who MISSED the Kid/LSR live experience. Get 'em while you can, baby...
UK £2.50 / Europe £3 / Rest Of World £3.50
The AMY LINTON/STEWART ANDERSON 7", HUON 7" and picture disc repress are ready as of 29th May. (The Amy/Stew 7" is available in the USA through Slumberland Records).
STEWARD is playing some dates on the West Coast of the USA in July, and also as the drummer of Girlboy Girl. Lunchbox are playing with them also.
June 12th sees the release of the UK version of THE AISLERS SET LP (UK CD will be on Fortuna Pop!, US LP and CD on Slumberland Records), as well as a brand new exclusive 4 track DOWNPOUR 7", the CD remix comp and a 10" mini disco gold vinyl LP by HUON.
SAUCER still haven't recorded their 10".
These will be the last releases on the label for some time as I plan to be travelling for at least 6 months. (STEWARD tours the East Coast in October and is also playing drums with THE CANNANES and Even As We Speak during these shows.)
KID606 + THE REMOTE VIEWER have just recorded a successful 5 song Peel Session. Broadcast date as yet unknown, but we will keep you posted.
THE REMOTE VIEWER have a new 12" EP out on Atomic Recordings of Antwerp, and have a 12" out soon on Domino.
The new 555 releases are finally ready, after pressing delays. So, order now with confidence (as I have a living room full of vinyl). If you require more info, please contact me. Look out for KID606 on tour in April, and also a REMOTE VIEWER vs. KID 606 Peel Session soon...
Please note that STEWARD will not in fact be joining KID606 on his European tour. Instead, KID606 will be accompanied by LESSER and 555 will be doing a limited edition split tour 7" to mark the occasion. Check the live section for the most current info.
Also, there have been some changes to the stuff on other labels section. Much old stuff has been removed and much new stuff has been added.
Finally, there are now 555 T-Shirts available, designed by Craig Tatersall from THE REMOTE VIEWER (he's done the graphics for the compilation CDs, one of which appears when you first visit this website. The graphic, that is, not the CD, although if you know how to do that, drop me a line.). I hope to have a scan/picture up as soon as I get one. More information on the catalogue page.
There has been a slight delay with our March releases as the tapes got lost in the post. But they found them and they are currently being pressed. They should be ready the third week of March.
They are:
55520 KID 606 / THE REMOTE VIEWER split 7" picture disc
55521 JEAN BACH Sans Les Playback 7" EP
55522 THE SISTERHOOD OF CONVOLUTED THINKERS Lunchdate 7" EP
555LP13 CRABSTICK Discoverooster Vinyl LP
Followed in April/May by ACCELERA DECK LP, KID606 / LSR split European tour 7", CANNANES 7", Remixes CD, HUON 7", AMY LINTON 7"...
We are also in the process of making some very tasteful T-Shirts and button badges. These should also be available in April. Please feel free to email me with any queries...
PLEASE NOTE 7"S 55505-55519 AND LPS 555LP1-LP10 ARE NOW IN LIMITED SUPPLY.
Any remaining items we have from these catalogue numbers will be withdrawn in September 2000 to coincide with a CD selection of tracks from these records. May we suggest, if you wish
to own these titles in their entirety, that you order them now before they are withdrawn. Thanks.
EMPRESS have split up. Nicola has moved to Melbourne and given up music to become a surf chick. There is an Empress mini-LP/CD out in March on Geographic thru Domino. It has taken forever to come out, but is actually the crowning acheivement of the band's recorded output.
KID606, the busy bee that he is will be in Europe for April and May playing a crazy tour that is taking him pretty much everywhere. He has a new split EP out on Fat Cat which is great, and is of course about to release the split picture disc on 555. There is also a limited European 7" in the works, if we get the master tapes in time, that is.
HUON have been busying themselves getting all loose, funky and disco-fied in preperation for the forthcoming "Disco Square" 10" LP. On gold vinyl, a silver vinyl 7" will preceed also containing some glitterly tunes for you to get busy to. Break out the dodgy 'tasches, flares and sequinned boob-tubes now.
THE REMOTE VIEWER have a new 12" EP forthcoming on the Atomic label of Belgium. They have also been on the recent Third Eye Foundation 12" as the B-side, featuring a remix of the 3rd Eye. They play Germany with STEWARD the 21st-28th Feb. They and KID606 also appear on a forthcoming compiltion on Lo Recordings.
BEACHBUGGY have just recorded a new LP in Chicago with Steve Albini. It won't be on 555, but I'm sure it will be great.
THE CANNANES are currently assembling a new LP for 555 due for release in September this year. There will be an East Coast tour with STEWARD and Even As We Speak.
STEWARD has two new releases in the can, man. There is a CD called "I Was The Only Boy In The Netball Team" on Blackbean and Placenta. There's also a 7" EP, which I've forgotten what it's called as it's been so long, out on City Bleach. Both are released in April. More info at the STEWARD website.
STEWARD and HOOD recently released a stupidly limited (250 only) 7" on Norman Records. It's meant to be available only through them but we have 20 copies so if you want one be quick. They are £3 UK / £3.50 or $5 elsewhere.
The Solex remix 12"/CDEP is out in March on Matador. Three of the six bands involved are from the 555 stable. They are STEWARD, KID606 and THE SISTERHOOD OF CONVOLUTED THINKERS. All have remixed Solex in their own characterist manner.
New releases for 2000:
There's plenty more from all your fave 555 stars. Just trying balance finances in a rush to get it all out as soon as we can. The ACCELERA DECK LP (555LP17) will be out in April. Plus more goodies...Watch this space!
PLEASE NOTE:
55520 is a picture disc and as such cost a little more for us to put together than our usual 7" manufacturing costs. So, although it pains us to do so, could you please add 50p/$1 more than the usual 7" price. In our defence we would like to add all our 7 inches are still very reasonably priced at £2.50, and are indeed cheaper from us than in the shops.
