Born Apr - 1868, Keokuk County, Iowa.1,2,3
The following article was published in the "Sacramento Evening Bee" (Sacramento, California) on Friday, February 24, 1905:4
HINSHAW STILL LINGERS IN THE OROVILLE JAIL
OROVILLE (Butte Co.), February 24 - C.E. Hinshaw, the South Dakota man the local officers are trying to hold until officials arrive from that State to take him back to stand trial for rape, was up before Judge Hills again yesterday. He was discharged, but the officers were ready for him with another warrant and he was again locked up. However, if the officers with the necessary papers do not arrive from South Dakota by to-night, Hinshaw will likely be turned loose.
A peculiar fact about this cast is that Witchell, a brother-in-law of Hinshaw, arrived a few days ago and wanted to take him back. The latter expressed a desire to go with him, but as he had no requisition papers the officers would not let him go. Later it was learned that a man was on the way with the necessary papers and it is believed he will arrive to-day.
