He married Malinda C. Moore, Mar 21 1861, Lawrence County, Ohio.5,6,7,8 Malinda, daughter of Lewis Moore & Delila Boyles, was born about 1844, Grayson County, Virginia.8,9,10
Note that George's brother Richard married Malinda's sister, Margaret Caroline Moore.8
During the Civil War, George W. Hanshaw served as a private in the Ohio Infantry.3 He enlisted Aug 25 1864, age 24,4 in the 183rd Ohio Infantry.3 On Sep 15 1864 he was enlisted in Company K, 173rd Ohio Infantry.4 He died Apr 4 1865, Johnsonville, Tennessee.4
On Jul 10 1865 Malinda C. Hanshaw applied for a Civil War Pension as widow of George W. Hanshaw, veteran of Company K, 173rd Ohio Infantry.5 On Nov 27 1865, Lewis Moore, guardian, also applied for a pension for a minor orphan (not named).5
