Born Jul 6 18602 [18611], St. Hyacinthe, Quebec2.  

Baptised 1860, Saint George, Montreal, Quebec.2  

He married Julia Willmotte Henderson, 1887, Anglican Christ Church Cathedral, Actes, Montreal, Quebec.1,2  Julia was born Aug 8 1869, England.2  

Charles and Julia were active naturalists, exploring the wilderness area of the interior of Vancouver Island.  In 1913 Julia was admitted to fellowship in the Royal Geographical Society, after that body finally accepted women.3  

Soon after the outbreak of World War I, Charles became head of the Vancouver recruiting center, as a civilian with the pay of lieutenant colonel.3  Julia also joined the war effort, first as a lieutenant in the Canadian Militia.  In 1916 she was sent to Europe to find out what additional supplies and comforts were needed in Canadian hospitals in France.  The following year she returned to England, where she joined the French Croix Rouge as an ambulance driver.  For helping to evacuate civilians from several towns while under enemy fire she was awarded the Croix de Guerre with a gold star, as well as a number of other medals.3  

Julia died Nov 18 1937, at her home, Caulfield, West Vancouver, B.C.; age 68.3
