Ruth's daughter Diane remembers:6

My mother was indeed a remarkable woman.  She was beautiful, physically, by nature and spiritually.  Mama had the most beautiful smile, and it was genuine.  My older sister was born just before our father left for WWII.  When our father asked her to bring the baby to NY for his leave before being deployed to Europe.  She boarded a troop filled train, baby in arms, and off she went!  A kindly Captain ordered the surrounding soldiers to avert their eyes while she nursed the newborn baby.

Later in life, after bearing 2 more daughters, she became a single mother, and went to work as a waitress (having no marketable skills).  She moved from waitressing into retail, excelling in that area.  Throughout her life she made the best of every situation regardless of how difficult life became.  She loved life, and lived every minute that she lived.  Throughout those challenges of life, she smiled and loved her girls.
