CHARLES HANCHER SUCCUMBED TO WHITE PLAGUE Death Ended His Suffering This Afternoon at Home Near Dundee
MAN HAD WASTED TO SKELETON

After battling with the dread tuberculosis for several months, death proved the victor and Charles Hancher who had the distinction of being one of the first men to run a traction car over the Alexandria-Tipton branch of the Indiana Union Tractor Co. is now only a lifeless lump of clay at his home east of the city, succumbing to the white plague at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon.
Hancher was about 40 years of age and for sseveral years was a motorman on the I.U.T. line running the greater part of the time between Tipton and Alexandria and residing at Tipton. When the strike of the employees of that line came on three years ago, Charles quit and went to his farm east of the city near Dundee, but a short time later his health began to fail and despite the fact that he was a fine physical specimen of manhood, began to decline and fell a victim to the dread tuberculosis. He wasted from a man of 240 pounds to little more than one hundred, he being almost a skeleton compared to his former physique at the time of his demise. He bore his illness with great fortitude and even after he was told that there was no longer hope for his recory was of a cheerful disposition and waited patiently for the end, although he suffered severely the past few months, a dropsical affection setting in and his feet swelled until the agony was unbearable to one who was at their normal condition. His death had been expected almost hourly for several days and the end of his sufferings was welcomed to the doomed man at last.
He leaves a wife and two children to mourn the loss of the husband and father. Hancher was a member of the Indiana Traction Railway Employees and there will be a large body of I.U.T. men attending the funeral, the arrangements of which had not been made as the Record goes to press. While in the employ of the I.U.T. Co., Charles Hancher was one of its most trusted employees and when there was a fast run wanted or a special set out where care and caution was necessary, Hancher was put in charge of the motor and he never had an accident or was ever reprimanded for carelessness. The funeral arrangements of the deceased will be announced tomarrow.

MONTA WEIR BODY TO BE RETURNED HERE Body of Monta Harcher Weir 77 who died Saturday night at the home of her daughter Mrs. Jacob Kinsey, Gary, will be returned Tuesday noon to Elwood and be taken to the Copher and Fesler Funeral Home. The body will be returned here from the Butler Funeral Home in Gary.
Mrs. Weir was born near Elwood and had resided in this vicinity most of her life. She was the widow of John Weir and was a member of the Christian Church in Gary. Mrs. Weir had resided in Elwood twelve years before going to the home of her daughter a short time ago. Surviving are the daughter at whose home she died, one son Lloyd Hancher, Gary; five grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Sarah Houser, New Marion, Oh; three brothers Stan Waymire, New Mexico; Erwin Waymire Fairmount, and Monroe Waymire, Marion.
Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Copher and Fesler Funeral Home with Rev. J.E. McCoy pastor fo the East Main Street Christian Church in charge. Burial will be in city cemetery.
