Donald Hinshaw HUDSON -- Donald Hinshaw, 78, of rural Hudson died at 7:53 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 4, 2005) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in El Paso, where he was a resident.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1927, in Hudson, to Oscar and Ellen Maple Hinshaw. He married Ruth Danielson on June 7, 1952, in Stavanger. She died on April 30, 1997.
Surviving are four sons, James (Judy) Hinshaw, Jerry (Sue) Hinshaw and Dale (Julie) Hinshaw, all of Hudson; and Dan (Judy) Hinshaw of Secor; two sisters, Margaret Graff of Pekin and Jane Wisdom of Hillsboro; 14 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Donald attended Normal Community High School where he served as senior class president and he also received the American Farmer Degree from the FFA. He also was active in athletics starting in all three sports. He then attended ISU and played on the football team. Donald was a member of the Hudson 4-H softball team that won the state championship in 1947.
Donald farmed in the Hudson area all of his life. He was a past member of the Hudson grain elevator board of directors. He and his wife were active in the community as 4-H leaders and he also helped coach the community softball teams.
He enjoyed sharing his love of farming with his family and watching his children and grandchildren show livestock. In his free time he also enjoyed attending auctions.
He attended the Hudson United Methodist Church, where his funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Kevin Boesen will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso.
Burial will be in the Hudson Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hudson United Methodist Church or to the Hudson Ag 4-H Club.
