Raymond Hanshaw, 86, of Worthington, Ky., passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2009. He was born Jan. 29, 1923 in Wurtland, Ky. to the late Eli Preston (Fred) Hanshaw and Beulah Walker Hanshaw.
He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II serving as a member of the 443rd Bombardment Squadron. He was a retired yard conductor for the C&O Railroad with 45 years of service. Raymond was a former Mayor and council member for the City of Wurtland. He was past president of the Wurtland Band Boosters and a member of Greenup Lodge 89 F & AM. He was also a member of The Wurtland Union Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, J.B. Bridges; a daughter, Linda Lou Hanshaw; and an aunt, Daisy Walker.
Surviving are his wife, Earline Collier Hanshaw; a son, Earl Ray Hanshaw; a daughter, Ramona (John) McComas, all of Worthington. Also surviving are grandchildren Jhonda L. McComas and John R. McComas.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Ky. Officiating will be Dr. Tom Melvin.
Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 21, 2009, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. by the Greenup Masonic Lodge 89.
