On Jun 5 1917 Charley Lee Marris, age 21, registered for the World War I draft in Jackson County, Alabama.  He declared he was born Nov. 25 1895 in Grays Chapel, Tennessee, and was then residing in Swaim, Alabama where he was single, without dependents, and a farm laborer employed by E.V. Marris of Swaim.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, light blue eyes, light brown hair.6  During World War I Charley served as a Private in the U.S. Army.8  

He married Lola Ethel (Brewer) Waller, Aug 17 1919, Hollytree, Jackson County, Alabama.1  Lola, daughter of Joseph Lee "Bug" Brewer & Lula Viola Martin, was born Jun 22 1900, Alabama.1,2,5,7,8
