According to a family story as told by Joseph Leonard Hinshaw, his great aunt Nettie wrote to him and requested that he not get married, but instead join her in Florida where she owned a hotel or business establishment. She in turn would take care of him with room & board and pay him a handsome salary. She was getting up in her years and needed the assistance of a young man for protection etc. Joseph graciously refused and married instead. Nettie is reported to have lost everything to dishonest employees and borders who befriended her and took her for whatever they could get.⁸

He married Christine Lenora Boyer, Jun 4 1955, Liberty, Indiana.¹ Christine, daughter of Maxwell Graham Boyer & Mae Mina Hunter, was born Sep 29 1934, Springfield, Clark County, Ohio.¹

Joseph and family were shown in the 1956 city directory of Springfield, Ohio:⁹

Joseph Leonard Hinshaw died Jun 9 2001, at his home, Springfield, Clark County, Ohio; 11:25 P.M.^2,5,10

Joseph's obituary was published in the "Springfield News-Sun" (Springfield, Ohio) on Tuesday, June 12, 2001,³ and on Wednesday, June 13, 2001 (page 18):⁴
