Miller Kirk Hinshaw Sr.  

Mr. Miller Kirk Hinshaw Sr., 81, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, in Simpsonville, S.C.  He was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Pfafftown to Treva Martha Kirk and James Thomas Hinshaw Sr.  He was a graduate of Gray High School and High Point College.  He worked at S&M Clothiers for several years and in 1960 became secretary/treasurer of Cahill & Swain Inc., retiring from that company in 1987 as first vice president.  Mr. Hinshaw was a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church, where he was active in the Searchers Sunday School Class as long as his health permitted.  He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean conflict, having served in the U.S. Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hinshaw was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel David Hinshaw, and a niece.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Ann Hinshaw; a daughter, Debbie Pugh and son-in-law, Dr. W. Leonard Pugh, of Greenville, S.C.; a son, Miller Kirk Hinshaw Jr. and daughter-in-law, Linda, of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Sara Hinshaw and Whitney and Hunter Pugh; a sister, Jean Haneline of New Bern; two brothers, James Thomas Hinshaw Jr. of Winston-Salem and Kelion D. Hinshaw of Raleigh; a sister, Jean Haneline of New Bern; seven nieces; and three nephews.  A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Ardmore United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Saturday in the church fellowship hall.  Memorials may be made to Ardmore United Methodist Church, 630 S. Hawthorne Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Elizabeth Ann Harris "Betty" Hinshaw

Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Harris Hinshaw, 82, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006.  She was born July 4, 1923, in Mount Airy to Maude Allran and James Olar Harris.  Mrs. Hinshaw spent most of her early life in Cherryville, moving to Winston-Salem in 1941 to attend business college.  After graduation, she was employed by Dunn and Bradstreet and Moore Business Forms.  She was a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Searchers Sunday school class and United Methodist Women as long as her health permitted.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hinshaw was preceded in death by her husband, Miller Kirk Hinshaw Sr.; and two brothers, Charles R. Harris and Capt. James W. Harris, USN (ret.).  She is survived by a daughter, Debbie, and son-in-law Dr. W. Leonard Pugh of Greenville, S.C.; a son, Miller Kirk Hinshaw Jr. and daughter-in-law Linda of Winston-Salem; and three grandchildren, Sara Hinshaw and Whitney and Hunter Pugh.  The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, March 31, at Vogler and Sons Funeral Home on Reynolda Road.  The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at Ardmore United Methodist church, followed by a family graveside service.  Memorials may be made to Ardmore United Methodist Church, the Arthritis Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice.  Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel is serving the Hinshaw family.
