J. L. HENSHAW SUCCUMBS TO HEART FAILURE

J. L. Henshaw, one of the early pioneers of the Payette Valley, died suddenly at his home on Second street, Tuesday, June 7th while eating supper.  He was taken with a coughing spell, and got up from the table, walked to the door, when death came without a moments warning.  While his death was unexpected, he had been affected with heart trouble for some time.

Mr. Henshaw was a man well thought of by every one.  He was quiet and unassuming in his way, a typical pioneer, always ready and willing to lend assistance to those in need, during the early days when help was deeply appreciated.  He came to Idaho fifty-two years ago and settled on a farm in Washoe bottom, near Payette, where he resided for many years.  He has been a constant resident of this community since coming west, and his death takes from our midst a familiar figure who was always highly respected for his honesty and fair dealing.  He was born in Rock County, Wisconsin, December 23, 1858 and at the age of 20 years was married to Emma Holace, who passed away 30 years ago, and in 1908 was married to Mrs. Minnie Franklin, who still survives.  He is also survived by three grand children and one brother.  The funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon from the Baptist church conducted by Rev. L. G. Fraser, and interment made in Riverside cemetery.

Another obituary was published in "The Payette Independent" (Payette, Idaho) on Thursday, June 9, 1932:8

JOHN HENSHAW DIED TUESDAY FROM HEART ATTACK - BURIAL TODAY

John L. Henshaw passed away at his home Tuesday evening, June 7, from a heart attack after an illness of two years.

The deceased is another one of the old pioneers of this community, having lived here for a period of 52 years.  In a recent conversation with an old friend he stated that at the time of his arrival, his mail was sent to Falk, the most convenient post office.  He was born in Rock County, Wisconsin December 23, 1858 and came to this country in 1880, where he has since made his home.  He was a member of the Baptist church and is survived by his wife, Minnie Henshaw.

Funeral services were held this afternoon, June 9th, at 2:00 in the Baptist church, Rev. L. G. Fraser conducting the services.  Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery.

Minnie died Feb 4 1934, Payette, Payette County, Idaho.9
