Born Mar 28 18601,4,6,9,10,11,12 [Mar - 18612], Ottawa, LaSalle County, Illinois1,4,6,9,10,11,12.  

He married Mehitable Stuart Tubbs13 [Hetty Stuart Tubbs5, Hettie Stuart Tubbs6, Betty Stuart Tubbs1], May 20 188613.  Mehitable was born Aug 12 18709 [Aug - 18632, about 18684], Oakland, Alameda County, California9.  (Hetty was very inconsistent in the way she reported her birthdate).9  

William was a banker.1  He also was founder of the Riverside Cement Company and the San Diego Water Company, which built water projects in southern California.  He built Lake Henshaw and was the main force behind Lake Hodges.  The San Diego Water Company purchased the Warner Land Grant from Henry Huntington for the purpose of water rights for Lake Henshaw.1  

Federal land grant records show that Griffith Henshaw acquired a parcel of land in Mendocino County, California on Jun 2 1919.  Also shown is a William G. Henshaw who acquired two parcels of land, also in Mendocino County, on Aug 4 1919.14  These appear to refer to this William Griffith Henshaw, but they could also refer to his son, William Griffith Henshaw, Jr., who was sometimes called "Griff".  

Federal land grant records also show that William G. Henshaw acquired a parcel of land in San Diego County, California on Oct 6 1919.14  

William's home was "Mira Vista", a grand house with huge gardens in Montecito, California (near Santa Barbara).15  The estate was used as a set for the unreleased 1940's movie "Brazil".15

William Griffith Henshaw died Mar 2 1924, at his home, Francisco Apartments, Sacramento & Powell, San Francisco, San Francisco County, California; cremated.1,17  

William's death was reported in the San Francisco "Chronicle" on Mar 4 1924 (page 11/1).3  His will provisions were reported in the Chronicle on Mar 7 1924 (page 7/8), and his probate was reported in the same newspaper on Mar 21 1924 (page 4/5).3  

Mehitable died Oct 23 19433,18 [Oct 24 19431], New York3,18; buried Garden, Section F Tier 3, Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, 1370 El Camino Real, Colma, San Mateo County, California3,18.  Hetty's death was reported in the "Argonaut" newspaper on Oct 29 1943.3
