Born Dec 25 18981,3,4,5 [Dec 25 18996,7,8], near Spiceland, Henry County, Indiana1,3,4,5.  

On Sep 12 1918 Robert Hinshaw, age 19, registered for the World War I draft in Newcastle, Henry County, Indiana.  He declared he was born Dec 25 1899, and was then residing at 315 59th St., Newcastle, and was a teller at 1st Natl. Bank at 1311 Broad St. in Newcastle.  He declared his nearest relative was Eleanore Hinshaw of Greensboro.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, grey eyes, brown hair.6  

In 1919 Robert was listed as a student in an enumeration of the schools of Howard County, Indiana.3  

He married Jane McEwen, about 1926.1,8,9  Jane was born about 1901, Indiana.8  

Robert and Jane were shown in the 1930 census (Apr 3-4 1930), 918 North Morgan Street, Rushville, Rush County, Indiana:8

Hinshaw, Robert S., head-of-household, age 30, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana; first married at age 26; rented home ($40 rent); radio in home; occupation: athletic director, public school; not a war veteran.
Hinshaw, Jane, wife, age 29, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana; first married at age 25.

Jane died 1955.9  

He then married Janet Dean Warneke9 [Janet Dean9].  

Robert S. Hinshaw died Jun 3 1961, St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana; age 62.9,10,11  

Robert was the athletic director at Rushville High School in Rushville, Indiana.  He was the first Assistant Commissioner of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), serving from 1945 until his death in 1961.  The high school football field in Rushville is "Robert S. Hinshaw Field" and the mental attitude award for the state championships in boys' track and field in Indiana is the "Robert S. Hinshaw Award."10
