Born Oct 17 1921, Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia.1,6  

During WWII Malcolm served in the U.S. 8th Air Force.1  On Sep 28 1942 in Huntington, West Virginia, Hugh M. Hinshaw, born 1921, enlisted as a private in the U.S. military ("branch immaterial").  He declared he had four years of high school, was single without dependents, and was recorded as 71" tall, 141 lbs.7  On Mar 18 1944 Technical Sergeant Hugh M. Hinshaw, Army Air Corps, was reported captured as a P.O.W.  He was reported repatriated May 29 1945.8  Malcolm wrote about his experiences during the war - see: http://www.b24.net/stories/hinshaw.htm9

He married Mary Rose Martin, Dec 28 1945.1  Mary, daughter of John A. Martin & Avis Omer, was born Jan 17 1928, Niagara Falls, Niagara County, New York.1,3,6

Malcolm's obituary was published in "The Herald-Dispatch" (Huntington, West Virginia) on January 29, 2002:2

HUGH MALCOLM HINSHAW, 80, of Huntington, husband of Mary Rose Martin Hinshaw, died Monday in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Huntington.  He retired from Shaw Company Builders Inc.  Also surviving are one daughter, Cheryl Hinshaw of Huntington; two sons, Hugh Martin Hinshaw and John Hinshaw, both of Huntington; two sisters, Lois Wellman of Huntington and Joyce Price of Proctorville, Ohio; and one brother, William Hinshaw of Huntington.  Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington; burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington.  Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Malcolm loved to write, and even wrote an epitaph for himself, which was published in "The Herald-Dispatch" on January 30, 2002, with the closing paragraph by daughter Cheryl Ann Hinshaw10 (see photo link below).  

Mary died Apr 10 2004, South Point, Lawrence County, Ohio; buried Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington, West Virginia.3,6,11

Mrs. Mary Rose Hinshaw, 76, of Huntington, W.Va., died Saturday, April 10, 2004, in Heartland of Riverview, South Point, Ohio.  Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004, at Chapman's Mortuary of Huntington by the Rev. David Chafin.  Entombment will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park.  Mary Rose was born January 17, 1928, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., a daughter of the late John A. and Avis Omer Martin.  She was a retired Real Estate agent from Prudential Bunch Company Realtors.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Malcolm Hinshaw and one brother John Martin Jr.  Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Hinshaw, two sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh Martin and Marcia Lynn Hinshaw and John and Sandy Hinshaw, three grandchildren, Nate, Mariah and Zach Hinshaw all of Huntington.  Pallbearers will be Zachary and Nathan Hinshaw, Albert Frasher, Tom Hill, David Howland and Gerry Escue.  Friends may call at Chapman's Mortuary from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004.  Condolences may be extended to the family at www.chapmans-mortuary.com
