In 1921 Clair accompanied his brother Claude and his family on their trip to Los Angeles in a 1917 Model T Ford. He worked at odd jobs (e.g. working on a bean threshing crew), then became a steam-shovel fireman with the Los Angeles Water Department, helping to build a dam. Later he worked for the water department in one of its electric powerhouses.1
Roscoe Clair Hinshaw died Aug 28 1930, Olive View Tuberculosis Sanitarium, near Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California; buried Boxley Cemetery, Boxley, Hamilton County, Indiana.1,2 Medical: Clair died from Tuberculosis.1
