Born Feb 29 1904, near Boxley, Hamilton County, Indiana.^1,2,3  

In 1921 Clair accompanied his brother Claude and his family on their trip to Los Angeles in a 1917 Model T Ford.  He worked at odd jobs (e.g. working on a bean threshing crew), then became a steam-shovel fireman with the Los Angeles Water Department, helping to build a dam.  Later he worked for the water department in one of its electric powerhouses.¹  

Roscoe Clair Hinshaw died Aug 28 1930, Olive View Tuberculosis Sanitarium, near Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California; buried Boxley Cemetery, Boxley, Hamilton County, Indiana.^1,2  Medical: Clair died from Tuberculosis.¹
