He married Rachel Kemp [Rachael Kemp1,13], 1838, Chatham County, North Carolina.  Rachel, daughter of Josiah Kemp & Dinah Moon, was born Apr 14 1821, Chatham County, North Carolina.1,2  

Rachel's maternal grandmother was Ruth Hinshaw, therefore Rachel was Michael's fourth cousin.2  

On 1-6-1838 at Cane Creek MM, Michael (Henshaw) was disowned.12  

On 10-6-1838 at Cane Creek MM, Rachel Hinshaw (formerly Kemp) condemned her being married "out of unity".12

The [Dina "] as shown in the 1860 census (e.g. Dina Hinshaw) was very likely an error in the census and most likely referred to Rachel's mother, Dinah Kemp.  

To avoid bearing arms during the Civil War, Michael hid in a rock-concealed hillside cave near his farm.  His family brought him food and items to be repaired, being careful to leave no tracks.3  

At Cane Creek MM on 3-6-1869, sons Milton W. & John W. were received by the request of mother, Rachel (daughter Amy also received).12

Michael was a farmer and merchant in Chatham County, North Carolina.1,3  Besides farming, Michael was an accomplished woodworker, making fine furniture and even coffins.3  

Michael Hinshaw died Nov - 1884, Chatham County, North Carolina.1,3  

Rachel died May 20 1895, Chatham County, North Carolina.1,2
