Ruth never married.3  

Ruth was a school teacher for some forty years in the vicinity of Cane Creek.  Despite low pay (about $20 per month) Ruth was a dedicated teacher who has been described as "a rare talented teacher" who "in a quiet, unassuming way ... made her pupils seekers after knowledge".  A lifelong Quaker, she also taught Sunday School lessons and was an ardent supporter of temperance.3  

Ruth wrote a poem about the unexpected death of her brother - see: John Hubbard Hinshaw.
