He married Rachel Kemp [Rachael Kemp1,13], 1838, Chatham County, North Carolina. Rachel, daughter of Josiah Kemp & Dinah Moon, was born Apr 14 1821, Chatham County, North Carolina.1,2
Rachel's maternal grandmother was Ruth Hinshaw, therefore Rachel was Michael's fourth cousin.2
On 1-6-1838 at Cane Creek MM, Michael (Henshaw) was disowned.12
On 10-6-1838 at Cane Creek MM, Rachel Hinshaw (formerly Kemp) condemned her being married "out of unity".12
Michael and family were shown in the 1850 census, Chatham County, North Carolina:4

To avoid bearing arms during the Civil War, Michael hid in a rock-concealed hillside cave near his farm. His family brought him food and items to be repaired, being careful to leave no tracks.3
