Sara Dell Hollenbeck Sara Dell Hollenbeck, 66, of Sultan, WA died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, August 13, 2004 at her home after an eight month battle with lung cancer.
She was born on December 8, 1937 in Oklahoma City, OK, the daughter of the late Dwight and Letha (Robb) Hinshaw. After the death of Letha, Dwight married the late Ethel (Grother) Hinshaw.
Her husband, Alfred Hollen-beck [sic], son, Bryon, daughter, Susan, and grandsons, Sean and Matt, all of Sultan, WA; her sisters, Nancy Pearson of Texas, Julie Mason, and Katherine Hinshaw; and brother, Joel Hin-shaw [sic], of Oregon, survive Sara.
Sara graduated from Peabody High School in Peabody, KA in 1955. She attended Oregon State College for two years majoring in education. Sara married Alfred L. Hollenbeck in Enterprise, OR on August 4, 1957. After raising her son, Bryon, and daughter, Susan, she commuted to Seattle daily to finish college and received a Bachelor of Arts in education in 1971 from the University of Washington. Sara was a substitute teacher in the Sultan School District for a short time.
Sara had been active, until her illness, in the Democratic Party in fund raising for candidates and has worked at the Democrats booth at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe as well as various positions, including Chair, for the 39th Legislative District Democrats.
Sara loved horses and for 30 years there were horses in her life. Many whole family horseback trips were made on the Cascade Crest Trail. She was a member of the Traildusters chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen of Washington and went on many trail rides with them.
A potluck celebration of life will be held at her home, 33114 Sultan Basin Road, Sultan, WA at 1:00 PM September 4, 2004.
