He married Glyde DeVore, Apr 21 1908, Macksville, Stafford County, Kansas.^1,3,12  Glyde, daughter of John Lockwood DeVore & Nancy Amanda Crull, was born Feb 12 1888, Macksville, Stafford County, Kansas.^{1,3,4,11,12,13,14}

On Sep 12 1918 Joseph Calvin Hinshaw, age 32, registered for the World War I draft in Dodge City, Ford County, Kansas.  He declared he was born Jan 4 1886, and was then residing in Wright, Ford County, Kansas where he was a self-employed farmer.  He declared his nearest relative was Glyde Hinshaw of Wright.  He was recorded as tall, medium build, brown eyes, black hair.⁷

Glyde died Apr 6 1927, Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas; buried Section B, Farmington Cemetery, Macksville, Stafford County, Kansas.^1,11,12,15  Glyde died just two days after the birth of son William John.¹  

He then married Glenola Wilkins, Jun 5 1929, Medicine Lodge, Barber County, Kansas.^1,2,11  Glenola was born Aug 5 1892^1,9,15 [about 1894²], Kansas^1,9,15.

Joseph lived in Wichita, Kansas and was an editor.^11,17,18  In 1967 he compiled a work titled "The History and Genealogy of the Hinshaw Family".¹⁷
