Born Mar 3 1844, Logan County, Kentucky.1,2,4
John David Hinchee enlisted in the Union Army Jul 23 1864 and was mustered out Sep 16 1865. Some of the major Civil War engagements in which he participated were the battles of Winchester, Gettysburg, Resaca, Georgia, Peachtree Creek, Kenesaw Mountain, the Siege of Atlanta, Black Swamp, Savanah, Averysboro and Bentonville. He was 40 days under fire at the siege of Atlanta, was wounded thru the arm at Resaca, and was wounded during the battle at Winchester and captured by the Confederates. During three or four months that he was a prisoner he spent part of the time at Lynchburg and part at Belle Island.1
He married Martha C. Chandler, Nov 28 1867, Bartholomew County, Indiana.1,5
He then married Martha Allison, Feb 25 1895, Springfield, Tennessee.1
He then married Elizabeth Ann Silvey Hardt1 [Bessie E. Sylvey6], Mar 10 18981, Hopkins County, Kentucky1. Elizabeth was born about 1871, Tennessee.2
John and family were shown in the 1930 census (Apr 9 1930), Piney Township, Crittenden County, Kentucky:2
Hinchee, John D., head-of-household, age 86, born in Kentucky; parents born in Virginia; first married at age 23; owned home; radio in home; occupation: farmer, general farm; veteran.
Hinchee, Bessie, wife, age 59, born in Tennessee; parents born in Tennessee; first married at age 26.
Hinchee, Charlie, son, age 22, born in Kentucky; father born in Kentucky; mother born in Tennessee; single; occupation: none.
Hinchee, Tomas, son, age 20, born in Kentucky; father born in Kentucky; mother born in Tennessee; single; occupation: farmer; veteran. [shown, apparently in error, as separate dwelling #9].
Living next door in 1930 was the family of son Teddy,7 and one more house away was the family of son Harvey.8
John David Hinchee died Feb 11 1931, Cave Springs, Crittenden County, Kentucky.1
