He married Sarah VanHorn.1,3  Sarah, daughter of Ralph + Margaret VanHorn, was born Aug 23 1872, Greene County, Iowa.3  (c1875).1

Alva G. Hancher died 1924, buried Powhatan Township Cemetery, Plover, Pocahontas County, Iowa.2  

Sarah died May 2 1954, Jefferson, Iowa; buried Powhatan Township Cemetery, Plover, Pocahontas County, Iowa.3  

Sarah's obituary was published in the "Jefferson Bee" (Jefferson, Iowa) on May 11, 1954:3

Hancher Held Here

Funeral services for Sarah Hancher were held at the Slininger Chapel at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, with Rev. Gilbert C. Stout, pastor of the First Methodist church of Jefferson, officiating.  

Mrs. C. C. Charles, accompanied by Shirley Winey, sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."  

Interment was in the Powhatan cemetery, Plover, Iowa.  

Sarah Hancher, daughter of Ralph and Margaret Van Horn, was born August 23, 1872 in Greene County, Iowa, and passed away at Jefferson on May 2, 1954, at the age of 81 years, eight months and nine days.  

She lived in Greene County until she was united in marriage to Alva Hancher at Rolfe on October 17, 1894.  During their married life they lived at Rolfe and Newmans Grove.
