He married Margaret Ellen Thomas, 1862.^a    (Margaret Ellenor Thomas)⁵⁹    (Margaret Ellinor Thomas)⁷⁸    (Ellen Thomas)^h    Margaret, daughter of Henry "Yancy" Thomas & Susannah Bayliff, was born Mar 9 1842, near Xenia, Greene County, Ohio.^58,i,j,c

In 1863 Barney, along with his brother-in-law Jerry Young, moved to Iowa, wintering at McKnight's Point^h (Davis County, Iowa).    In May of 1864, Barney turned the first furrow in Powhatan Township, Pocahontas County, Iowa.^k,l    He served as one of the first judges at the first election in Powhatan and later three years as a trustee.^l

Barney and family were shown in the 1895 Iowa State Census, Clinton Township, Pocahontas County, Iowa:^m

Margaret died 1918, buried Powhatan Township Cemetery, Plover, Pocahontas County, Iowa.^c
