Born about 1860, Buchanan County, Missouri.3,5,6,7,8,10 Jared was born on October 18, the exact year unknown,5 although census data shows it would have been 1859 or 1860.6,7,8
He married Susan Francis Shanks, Jan 29 1885, Buchanan County, Missouri.5,11 Susan, daughter of George W. + Jane Shanks, was born about 1869, Missouri.2,3,8,10,12
Susan was the daughter of George W. Shanks, a Union soldier who had walked guard duty in the prison where Jared's father had been held prisoner during the Civil War.5
Richard Henshaw was shown in the 1887 list of taxpayers in Platte River, Jackson Township, Buchanan County, Missouri.9 He was again shown in the 1889 taxpayer list, same location.9 The same taxpayer lists also show brother John as well as an unidentified A.B. Henshaw9 (perhaps their mother or possibly brother Allen),13 and also an unidentified Fred Washington Henshaw of St. Joseph, Buchanan County (1890).9
Richard Henshaw was shown in an 1888 city directory of St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri, where he was listed as a driver with "Gilpin & Bro.", with his residence at 433 N. 18th.14 Again in 1889 J. Richard Henshaw was shown in a St. Joseph city directory, where he was listed as a clerk with "Gilpin & Bro.", with his residence at 109 N. 16th.14 In 1890 Richard Henshaw was shown in the St. Joseph city directory, this time as a "dairyman" living at 117 N. 8th.14 Also listed in the St. Joseph city directories of 1887-1890 were brother Thomas Henshaw (also a dairyman of 117 N. 8th), brother John Henshaw, brother Allen Henshaw, a Mrs. Bridget Henshaw, and a Joseph A. Henshaw.14
About 1902/1903 the family moved to Houston, Texas, but moved back to the St. Louis, Missouri area by 1904.1

Jared and Susan were shown in the 1930 census (Apr 16 1930), 2223 Gabler, Central Township, St. Louis County, Missouri:10

Henshaw, Susan Frances, mother, age 71, born in Missouri; completed 3rd grade; on Apr 1 1935 was living in the same place/area; widow.
Susan died 1944, St. Louis County Hospital, St. Louis County, Missouri.1
