Green was reportedly the son of Archibald Thompson (born 1789 in Virgina) and his wife Martha (born 1790 in Kentucky),6 but there is some suspicion of illegitimacy in family oral history,10 which might explain the inconsistent use of Hinshaw and Thompson.11
