Ivan graduated from the Newton (Iowa) High School in the class of 1930.9  

He married Colene M. Southern2, Jun 16 19302 [Jun 16 193310], Mingo, Jasper County, Iowa2.  Colene, daughter of Arthur A. + Lucinda N. Southern, was born Dec 30 1915, Iowa.8,11  

Ivan L. Hinshaw died Feb 6 2002, Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa; buried Newton Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton, Jasper County, Iowa.2,5  

Ivan's obituary was published in the "Newton Daily News" on February 8, 2002:2,12

Ivan L. Hinshaw, 90, of 500 1st St. N. died of a heart and kidney failure Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.  Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. David Wendell officiating.  Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.  Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.  Family will receive friends Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church.  Memorials will be accepted to the First United Methodist Church or to the Skiff Medical Center's Kidney Care Dialysis Unit and may be left at the church on Saturday or may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.  

The son of H. E. and Daisy (Frost) Hinshaw, he was born Nov. 18, 1911, in rural Newton.  He was a 1930 graduate of Newton Senior High School and on June 16, 1930, he married Colene Southern in Mingo.  He lived on the Hinshaw family farm in rural Newton all his life, until moving to Park Centre in December 2001. He retired from farming in 1976.  

Mr. Hinshaw was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Newton Lodge No. 59 A.F./A.M., Newton Chapter No. 100 of the Order of Eastern Star, Jasper County Farm Bureau, Jasper County Historical Society, Elks Lodge 1270, the Newton High School Alumni Association and a life time member of Amboy Grange.  

Survivors include his wife, two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Bill Hart of Polk City and Peggy and Jim Milburn of Whittler [sic - Whittier], Calif., two granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, three sisters, one of which died in infancy.

Colene died Aug 16 2006, Park Centre Health Care Center, Newton, Jasper County, Iowa; age 90.13,14

Colene Hinshaw, 90, of Newton died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at Park Centre Health Care Center in Newton.  

A funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating.  Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.  Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.  

The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the church.  Memorials to the First United Methodist Church or to Park Centre Good Samaritan Fund may be left at the church the morning of the service or at Wallace Family Funeral Home.
