In Mar 1901 Edward Hanshaw homesteaded 160 acres of land in Dundy County, Nebraska. He built a 12'x24' sod house, with a 14'x20' framed barn, a milk house, and a well; 40 acres under cultivation. He declared he was living on the homestead with his wife and two children.¹²

He then married Alma F. Leville¹ [Alma Leveille³], 1909¹. Alma was born 1883, New York.^1,2,13
