He married Asenith H. Bryant14,19,20 [Asenath O'Bryen2], Nov 23 185414,19,20, Randolph County, North Carolina14,19,20.  Asenith was born Mar 2 1833, North Carolina.1,2,3,4,9,21  

A marriage bond was recorded for Newton Hinshaw & Asenith Bryant on November 23, 1854, Randolph County, North Carolina.  They were married that very same day by a J. M. Kennet.  Newton's uncle Mines Hinshaw was recorded as a bondsman.20  

Asenith has been reputed to have been half Cherokee.22  She had a brother named John O'Bryen who was the former pastor of a Methodist Church in St. Louis, Missouri, and later became pastor of Holiness Church in Shelbyville, Missouri.2  

Newton & Asenith left North Carolina, arriving in Missouri by wagon train in 1855.  Other families in the wagon train were Brower, Trogdon, and Spoon.2

During the Civil War Newton served in Company A, 8th Missouri Cavalry.2,23  Asenath taught school in Missouri while Newton served in the war.2  

By 1870 Newton and Asenith were living in Elwood, Center Township, Green County, Missouri.22

Newton was instrumental in the establishment of the Clear Creek Methodist Church in Greene County, Missouri.25

Asenith died 1888, Greene County, Missouri; buried Clear Creek Cemetery, 7782 W Farm Road 108, Springfield, Center Township, Greene County, Missouri.7,21

Hinshaw, Newton M., private, Company A, 8th Missouri Cavalry; enlisted July 28 1862; discharged July 1865; served 2 years, 11 months, 12 days; post office address: Plainfield; disability: piles.

On Aug 11 1890, in Missouri, Newton M. Hinshaw applied for a pension as a veteran of Company A, 8th Missouri Cavalry.23
