Born May 1 1795, Berkeley County, West Virginia.1,4,5  

George moved to Kentucky in 1819 and settled near Geiger Lake, where he was one of the first settlers in Union County.  He was very poor at first, but before many years he amassed a fortune.  He was one of the largest land owners in the county.1  The town of Henshaw, Kentucky (in Union County) was named after George Henshaw.6  

He married Sarah "Sally" Pool, Mar 30 1824, Union County, Kentucky.1,7  Sarah, daughter of Ezekiel + Mary Pool, was born Apr 10 1806, North Carolina.1,8  

In Nov 1836, Andrew Henshaw was born, illegitimate son of George Henshaw & Mary Johnson, godmother Mary Fowler; Andrew died a few months later on Feb 5 1837, St. Vincent, Kentucky.9  

George and family were shown in the 1850 census living in District 1, Union County, Kentucky, as follows:3

Living nearby in Union County, Kentucky was George's son John.  Note also that George is shown on the same page of the census, as a close neighbor to, his first cousin, James D. Henshaw.  

Sarah died Jun 29 1855, Union County, Kentucky; age 49.1,2,8  Medical: Sarah died from typhoid fever.8  At about the same time, three of their black slaves also died from typhoid fever: Alford, male, 20; Jane, female, 30; Fanny, female, 17.8  

Widower George was shown in the 1870 census (Sep 1 1870), living in the household of daughter Georgianna in Shilo Precinct, Union County, Kentucky:4

Widower George Henshaw was shown in the 1880 census (Jun 4 1880), living in the household of son William in Union County, Kentucky:5

Henshaw, George, father, age 85, born in Virginia; parents born in Virginia; widower.

George Henshaw died Sep 4 1882, buried Rowley Cemetery, Kentucky 109, near Henshaw, Kentucky.1  

George had prepared his will on Jun 16 1880 as follows:

I George Henshaw of Union County Kentucky do hereby make and publish and declare my last will and testament as follows.  1st I hereby revoke all other wills and codicils by me heretofore made.  2nd I hereby appoint my two sons John E. Henshaw and W. B. Henshaw both of Union County, Kentucky the executors of this will.  3rd I will and direct all my estate both personal and real shall be sold and all the debts due me collected and after paying out of the proceeds of my funeral expenses and all my debts.  I bequest to John E. Henshaw fourteen hundred and ninety one dollars.  To the children of my daughter Mary W. Ray fourteen hundred and twenty one (1421) dollars.  To my son Felix G. Henshaw seventeen hundred and fifty six (1756) dollars, to my son Wm. B. Henshaw seventeen hundred and fifty six (1756) dollars, to my daughter Sizzie Bell seventeen hundred and fifty six (1756) dollars, to my daughter Julia Sale fifty one (51) dollars and to the children of my daughter Georgianna Farley seven hundred and fifty six (756) dollars, and I will and direct after the payments of the expenses debts and bequests aforesaid the balance be equally divided among my children as follows: To John E. Henshaw one share.  To the children of Mary W. Ray one share.  To Felix G. Henshaw one share.  To Wm. B. Henshaw one share.  To Sizzie Bell one share.  To my daughter D. R. Bolir one share and to the children of my daughter Georgianna Farley one share and to my daughter Julia Sale one share.  4. I will and direct that my executors shall sell my real estate in lots or parcels to said purchasers at public sale after all advertizement in the manner required by law for the sale of similar property under execution of at least 30 days at the front door of the court house door in the town of Morganfield, Union Co. Kentucky for one third of the price in cash and the balance on a credit of one and two years equal instalments with interest from date of sale and at this sale all my children including said executors shall have the opportunity and privelege to attend and buy the land or any part thereof if they wish to do so.  5. Should I between this date and my death give to any of the above named lagatees any money or property I will and direct the amount of the money or the value of the property thus given shall be deducted by my executors from the share of the legates to whom it is given.  In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this 16 June AD. 1880.
