Don attended elementary and junior high schools in the Los Angeles area before his parents moved to Needles, California in 1941.    He served two years in the U.S. Navy V-12/ROTC programs, receiving his discharge in Jacksonville, Florida on Aug 8 1946.^166,171

He attended the University of Redlands, where one of his roommates was H.R. "Bob" Haldeman, who later became Chief of Staff to President Nixon (and a famous Watergate-era political figure).¹⁷¹

He married Joy Ann Phye, Jul 18 1947.¹⁶⁶    Joy, daughter of Virgil Willis "Jack" Phye & May June Brittain, was born Sep 13 1929, Wellington, Kansas.^166,b

Don continued with college and received a BA in Business Administration in 1949, and an MA in Education in 1952 from the University of Redlands.    He also earned General Elementary, General Secondary, and General Administrative life credentials.    He taught elementary school for six years in Redland, California.    During his career he was Federal Project Coordinator, Assistant Superintendent - Business Services, as well as superintendent for several school districts.¹⁶⁶

In June of 1987, one week after Don retired, Joy was diagnosed with lymphoma (cancer).¹⁶⁶    Joy died Mar 26 1997, Kern County, California; buried Mar 28 1997, Westside District Cemetery, Taft, California.^166,b

He then married Dorothy Mae Armstrong, Sep 20 1997.¹⁶⁶

Don and Dorothy were divorced Feb 24 2001.^c

He then married Vada Oma Lundstrom, Oct 13 2001.^c    Vada was born Dec 8 1919, Moundridge, Kansas.^d

Vada died Apr 29 2012, Bakersfield, Kern County, California; age 92.^d

Vada Oma Henshaw 1919 - 2012 A funeral service will be held in the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. for Vada Oma Henshaw, 92.    Mrs. Henshaw was born In Moundridge, Kansas on December 8, 1919 and on April 29, 2012 in Bakersfield she went home to be with the Lord.    She had lived in Taft since 1935 and was a member of the Foursquare church.    She was employed with the telephone company as a line assigner and retired after 25 years of service.    Her proudest accomplishment, aside from her family, was becoming a licensed minister.    She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Hazel Havenhill, Nedra Adams, Marian Hewitt and Verna (twin of Vada) Cole.    Mrs. Henshaw is survived by her husband, Donald Henshaw; daughters, Sharon Besler, Marvalyn Chandler and Susan Loustalot; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.    Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.    To convey condolences please visit www.EricksonAndBrown.com.    Erickson & Brown Funeral Home
