Born about 1784.5 (1794-1804).6 (1790-1800).7
He married Nancy Agnes Hughes, Oct 21 1818, Mason County, Virginia.2,3,4,5,8 Nancy was born about 1810, Virginia.2,7,9
Several published histories and genealogies show a Nancy Hughes, daughter of Jesse Hughes & Grace Tanner, who married a George Hanshaw.3,10,11 It has been thought that this was the same Nancy who married this George Hanshaw. However the Nancy Hughes referenced in published histories seems to have been born in or about 1786, whereas census records on this George Hanshaw family show his wife Nancy was born about 1810, so it seem that there might have been two different George Hanshaws in Virginia at about this time, or perhaps the published histories are incorrect in the dates shown for the Nancy Hughes family.
In the late 1820s, George and Nancy took in Nancy's father, Jesse Hughes, into their home near the mouth of Turkey Run, above Ravenswood, Jackson County, West Virginia.3 Later they moved above the mouth of Straight Fork on Big Sand Creek (Sandy Creek), Jackson County, West Virginia.3
