He married Margaret (Touchstone) McConnell5,6 [Margaret Touchstone7, Peggy Touchstone7], Nov 23 18185,6, Berkeley County, Virginia5,6.  Margaret, daughter of William + Christina Touchstone, was born about 1788, Frederick County, Virginia.3,7  (c1790).4  

Margaret had been previously married to an Abraham McConnell,7 Jun 15 1809, Frederick County, Virginia5 (Margaret was named in her father's will of 1811 as Margaret McConnell, wife of Abraham McConnell).7  

James and family were shown in the 1850 census (Sep 21 1850), Berkeley County, Virginia:1

James Henshaw, age 54, born in Virginia; farmer.
Mrs. [? unclear] Henshaw, age 50, born in Virginia; $1600 real estate.
James Henshaw, age 25, born in Virginia; farmer.
Henry Henshaw, age 24, born in Virginia; miller.
Margaret Henshaw, age 23, born in Virginia.
Mary Henshaw, age 16, born in Virginia.
Rachel Henshaw, age 14, born in Virginia.
Edward Brady [unclear], age 19, born in Virginia; occupation: none; "deaf & dumb".

James and family were shown in the 1860 census (Aug 11 1860), Berkeley County, Virginia:4

Margaret Henshaw, age 70, born in Virginia.
James W. Henshaw, age 34, born in Virginia; farmer; $1200 real estate; $420 personal property.
Mary Henshaw, age 25, born in Virginia.
Living next door in 1860 was the family of Levi Henshaw.8  Also living next door in 1860 was the family of a James McConnell, age 709 (relationship unknown).  

Margaret, apparently widowed, and son James were shown in the 1870 census (Aug 30 1870), Berkeley County, Virginia:3

Henshaw, Margaret, age 81, born in Virginia; keeping house; $1200 real estate; $125 personal property.
Henshaw, James W., age 47, born in West Virginia; farm manager.
Living next door in 1870 was the family of Marion Lee Henshaw;10 one more house away were Marion's parents and family, the family of Samuel Preston Henshaw.11  

Margaret died May 5 1872, Berkeley County, West Virginia; age 84.12
