Nicholas grew up near Winchester, Virginia.¹³³

He served in the Revolutionary War.^a

In 1789, at the age of 26, Nicholas left the Shenandoah valley and patented 255 acres of land in North Union township (then Readstone township), Fayette County, Pennsylvania.    There he cleared a farm and lived there for the rest of his life.¹³³

He married Margaret McConnel.^133,145    Margaret was born in 1753, Virginia.^133,78

Note that Nicholas' brother Levi married Ann McConnell,^69,70,133 and his other brother Hiram married Mary McConnell^{1,69,70,132,133} (sisters??).    [and also: a James Henshaw married a Margaret McConnell in 1818].
