Whereas
William Hinshaw
son of
William & Mary Hinshaw
of Guilford County and province of North Carolina
and
Rachel Marten
daughter of
George & Sarah Marten
of Chatham County and province afforesaid
having declared
their intention of marriage with Each other before several monthly meetings
of the people Called Quakers at Cane Creek meeting house in
orange County and province afforesaid according to the good order
used amongst them and having
Consent of parents & relations Concerned their
said proposals of marriage was allowed by said meetings :
Now These are to Certify whom it may concern that for the full
accomplishing their sd intention this
Nineteenth Day of the twelfth month in the year of our Lord
one thousand seven hundred Eighty one
they the said
William Hinshaw
and
Rachel Marten
appeared in a publick meeting of the said people and others at their
meeting house at Rocky River - - - and the said
William Hinshaw
taking the said
Rachel Marten
By the hand did in a solemn manner openly Declare that he took
her the said
Rachel Marten
to be his wife promising with the Lords assistance
to Be unto her a true and faithful husband until death
should seperate them or words to that effect, and then
and there in the same assembly the said
Rachel Marten
did in like manner openly Declare she took him the said
William Hinshaw
to be her husband Promiseing with the Lords assistance to be unto him a
true and faithful wife until Death should seperate them or words
to that Purpose - - -
And moreover they the said William Hinshaw and Rachel Marten she according to the Custom of marriage assuming the name of her Husband as a further Confirmation thereof Did then and there To these presents set their hands And we being present at the solemnization of the said marriage do as witnesses thereunto also subscribe our names the Day and year above Written William Hinshaw
