Edith Rebecca Hinshaw
1924 - 2003

A memorial service for Edith Rebecca Hinshaw of Yamhill will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, in Bethel Baptist Church, McMinnville, with the Revs. Richard Bryson and Bard Marshall officiating.

Mrs. Hinshaw died of natural causes Dec. 20, 2003, in her home in Yamhill.  She was 79.  Disposition was by cremation.

She was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Barnesville, Ohio, daughter of Roy and Emma Johnson.  She and Vernon Hinshaw married in 1946 in Barnesville and they always worked together.

The Hinshaws ran a ranch near Goldendale, Wash., for 20 years.  In 1970, they purchased a health food store in Gladstone and have operated such stores since.  They moved to McMinnville in 1973 after purchasing Parkway Health Foods on Third Street.  The store was relocated to the Town Center Shopping Plaza several years ago.

Mrs. Hinshaw was very active in scouting, 4-H and church, and was a leader and teacher.  She also was a reader, writer, painter and a listening ear for many.

She attended Strayer Business College in Washington, D.C., in 1941.  She also worked in Dayton, Ohio, for the Army Air Forces in 1942-45.

Her family said Edith's faith, honesty, work ethic, love of people and fun, eagerness to help and listen will be engraved in the legacy she has left us to carry on.

She is survived by her husband of Yamhill; two daughters, Kathy Winniford of McMinnville and Tricia Foley of Oregon City; a son, Phillip Hinshaw of Auburn, Wash.; and a brother, Roy Myron Johnson of Barnesville; and 13 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Lamont Hinshaw, in 1994 and a brother, Allen Nelson Johnson, in 1944.

Arrangements were under the direction of Neptune Cremation, Portland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International or the Bethel Baptist Building Fund.

Vernon currently (2005) still resides in Yamhill, Oregon.2,6
