On Sep 12 1918 Clyde Herbert Hinshaw, age 33, registered for the World War I draft in Boone County, Missouri.    He declared he was born July 9 1885, and was then residing in Ashland, Boone County, Missouri where he was a self-employed farmer.    He declared his nearest relative was Enna Louise Hinshaw of Ashland.    He was recorded as medium height, medium build, light blue eyes, light brown hair.^d

Clyde was a member of Acacia Lodge, Tiger Shrine, and Missouri United Methodist Church.^k

Clyde served on the Columbia, Missouri, city council for ten years.    He also served on the Selective Service Board for 20 years, as well as the City Charter Commission for Columbia, Mo.    He also served as President of the Downtown Optimist Club.    He was elected president of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce in 1948.^k

In 1999, the "Columbia Daily Tribune" [Missouri] ran this in its "Mid-Missouri Memoirs" column, in the '40 years ago' section:^l

April 27 1959 Clyde Hinshaw, who did not seek re-election this spring after five consecutive two-year terms on the city council from the Third Ward, was given a plaque by fellow members of the Downtown Optimist club today 'in honor and recognition of his unselfish contributions to the community'.

On October 25, 1966, on the occasion of the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Clyde Hinshaw & Enna Louise Hendrix, the following appeared in the "Columbia Daily Tribune":^h

The marriage cermony took place on a Wednesday, October 25, 1916, in the living room of the bride's parents's home in Springfield (MO).    Her father, the Rev. Thomas Hendrix, a Baptist minister, performed the ceremony.    Mrs. Hinshaw recalls that her youngest brother was about 5 years old and a niece only one month old.    She is the oldest of 10 children and they were all present to witness the wedding and to take part in the wedding dinner which followed.    She remembered that she wore a suit and white chiffon blouse.    The young couple took an afternoon train for Boone County, changing trains at Clinton where they spent the night, arriving in Columbia the next day.    They took the hack from Columbia toward Englewood where they were met by the groom's father who took them the rest of the way to the farmstead where Mr. Hinshaw's mother had assembled many friends, neighbors and family, all waiting to honor them with a dinner party.    Mr. Hinshaw farmed in the Englewood community until the early 1930s when he and his family moved to Columbia.    He managed the Columbia Co-operative Warehouse Association here and he and Mrs. Hinshaw have been active participants in community affairs through all the years that followed.    Their appearance belies his 81 years and her 76.    Mr. Hinshaw served 10 years on the City Council, representing the Third Ward; has been present of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, the Optimist Club, steward of the Missouri Methodist Church, and a lifelong Republican.    Mrs. Hinshaw has participated in activities in Missouri Methodist Church, Republican Women's Club, Gamma Phi Beta Mother's Club and Opti-Mrs.    The Hinshaws' son Frank was lost in and airplane tragedy during World War II.    Their daughter Ann and two grandchildren were killed in an automobile accident six years ago.
