Mary Becky Hinshaw [Mary R. Hinshaw1,2].
All records show her as Mary R. Hinshaw, but she was known in the family as Mary Becky (presumably her middle name was Rebecca).3 Born Feb 29 1844, McLean County, Illinois.1,2,4,5,6
Mary Becky Hinshaw was shown in the 1900 census (Jun 23 1900), Danvers Township, McLean County, Illinois:7
By all accounts, Mary Becky never married. She owned a considerable amount of farmland, presumably inherited from her father Charles, including a 17-acre parcel known to all locals as "The Mary Becky". This parcel was immediately adjacent to cousin Charles Newton Hinshaw's farm, so one day after having saved a considerable sum (and characteristically carrying it all in his pants pocket), Charles Newton purchased "The Mary Becky" for $100/acre ($1700 cash).
Mary Becky Hinshaw died May 20 1909.1,5
Mary Becky's final resting place in the Parklawn Cemetery, Danvers, Illinois is marked with a large and beautiful stone marker containing a large red granite heart and engraved with vines and flowers. At the bottom she leaves her final words to those who come to visit:
"Go home dear friends and do not weep
I am not dead, I only sleep
As I am now so you must be
Prepare for this and come to me."
