On May 2 1922 Bertha Hinshaw was issued a U.S. passport. She declared she was born February 9th 1889 in Ashland, Missouri, and her father, Americus F. Hinshaw, was born in Winchester, Indiana and was then residing in Ashland, Missouri. Bertha declared she was then residing in Hibbing, Minnesota, occupied as a teacher. She declared she intended to depart June 21st 1922 from the port of Montreal, Canada on board the Melita, intending to visit France, England, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Belgium, Austria and Czechoslovakia for "educational purposes". She was recorded as age 33, 5' 2" tall, blue eyes, light brown hair, fair complexion, broad nose, oval face. Her passport application was affirmed by Ross W. Elliott, "College Instructor", "Lincoln High School", Hibbing, Minnesota, who affirmed he had known Bertha for two years. Her passport was to be sent to "Miss Bertha Hinshaw, c/o Junior College, Hibbing, Minnesota".4
On Aug 23 1922 Bertha arrived in the Port of New York (Ellis Island) on the ship S.S. Majestic, having departed from Southampton, England on Aug 19 1922:5
Hinshaw, Bertha, age 33, born Feb 9 1899, Ashland, Mo.; single; residence: Ashland, Mo.
Bertha later lived in Spokane, Washington.6,7 She never married.1
Bertha Irene Hinshaw died Jul - 1977.7
