He married Dorothy Ann Delaney1 [Ann Delaney5], Feb 8 18471, Union County, Kentucky1. Dorothy, daughter of George W. + Sarah Delany, was born about 1830, Kentucky.2,10 Note that John's cousin James married Dorothy's sister Martha Delaney.
John and family were shown in the 1850 census (Sep 24 1850), Union County, Kentucky:2
Dorothy died Apr - 185410 [Jul 15 18541], Kentucky10; age 2410. Dorothy died from consumption1,10 (tuberculosis).
He then married Sarah E. Rowley St. Aubin1 [Sarah E. Rowley1,5,6], Feb 16 18561. Sarah, daughter of Major Rowley & Alyza Skinner1,3,12,13, was born Jun 12 18281,3,12,13 [182912], Virginia1,3,12,13. Sarah was the widow of John R. St. Aubin1 (John K. St. Aubin),12 whom she had married on Mar 24 1853.1 Sarah was also the sister of Gustavis Rowley,1,12 who owned the land which is the site of Rowley Cemetery, where at least seventeen family members are buried.1

The subject of this sketch was born on the old Henshaw farm one mile from Geiger's Lake December 11, 1824. His is the son of George and Sallie (Pool) Henshaw. George, one of the first settlers of the county, was born in Burkley [sic], Virginia, in 1794. In 1819 he came to Kentucky and settled near Geiger's Lake, and in 1822 was married. He was very poor when he went to house-keeping, but before many years he amassed a fortune. He was one of the largest land owners in the county. He raised a large family, and left every member a nice fortune. Many, many times has the old gentleman related his bear and wolf hunts to the writer. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with membership at Shiloh. He died at the home of one of his children in this county in 1883, having lived and served his country eighty-nine years. Subjects mother was born in North Carolina in 1804. Her father was a Virginian, who moved to this country in an early day. She died in 1855. Subject has been twice married: First, 1847, to Miss Ann Delaney, unto whom two children were born; secondly, in 1856, to Miss Sarah Rowley, daughter of Major Rowley, who came from Virginia in 1832. The married children are as follows: William P., a merchant at Blackburn, Ky., married Bell Morris, and has one child; James, a farmer in Shiloh Precinct, married Sudie Morris and has two children; Laura married George Smith, a carpenter from Evansville, and has one child; Mollie married John Slack, a farmer of Raleigh Precinct; John, who is his only single child, manages on the farm for his father. Subject is a Democrat, and has held the office of Magistrate in his precinct for sixteen years. He was one of the Levy Court that appropriated the money to build our present court house and jail.Subject owns five hundred and seventy acres of fine land, with three hundred and fifty acres cleared and in a high state of cultivation. His present house, built in 1870, is a neat frame, with six rooms and hall. Subject has been a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over thirty years.
