Born about 1837, Kentucky.2,8
He married Margaret McDaniel1,3 [Peggy Ann McDaniel9]. Margaret, daughter of Hiram + Nancy McDaniel, was born about 1837, Illinois.2,5,8,10
James and family were shown in the 1860 census, Williamson County, Illinois:8
Jas Henshaw, age 23, born in Kentucky; farmer; $150 personal property; cannot read or write.
Margaret Henshaw, age 23, born in Illinois.
James Henshaw died before Jun - 1880.7
Widow Margaret and family were shown in the 1880 census (Jun 16 1880), Stonefort Township, Saline County, Illinois:7
Henshaw, Margret, age 40, born in Illinois; parents born in Tennessee; widow; keeping house; cannot read or write.
Henshaw, Ellen, daughter, age 18, born in Illinois; parents born in Illinois; "without occupation"; can read, cannot write.
Henshaw, George, son, age 16, born in Illinois; parents born in Illinois; farm laborer.
McDonnald, Nancy, sister, age 30, born in Illinois; father born in Tennessee; mother's birthplace "unknown"; single; "without occupation"; cannot read or write.
Living next door in 1880 was the family of son Charles.11
Margaret and family were again shown in the 1900 census (Jun 4 1900), Saline County, Illinois:5
Henshaw, Margaret, head-of-household, age 63, born Mar 1837 in Illinois; father born in Illinois; mother born in Tennessee; widow, married 42 years; 4 children, 4 living; farmer; owns farm; cannot read or write.
Henshaw, Nancy E., daughter, age 39, born May 1861 in Illinois; parents born in Illinois; single.
Henshaw, Boman, son, age 24, born Sep 1875 in Illinois; father born in Kentucky; mother born in Illinois; single.
McDaniel, S.J., female, cousin, age 51, born Aug 1849 in Illinois; parents born in Illinois; single.
Note son "Boman" above is a bit mysterious: he was listed without the usual "---" notation that was otherwise normally used in this census to indicate a continuation of the previous surname (his actual surname cannot be determined with certainty from the census). He was listed as "son", which normally would mean son of the head-of-household (Margaret), except the census shows his father was born in Kentucky, which doesn't match with James Henshaw. It is possible that perhaps this was a child of daughter Nancy Ellen.12
This is probably the same as James Hinshaw #722. Note that living next door to the family of James Hinshaw #722 in 1850 was the family of a Joseph & Catherine McDannel,13 possibly Margaret's brother or cousin.12 Also in 1850, living just two houses away from James's elder brother, Hugh Henshaw, was the family of Margaret (then age 13) and her parents and siblings.10
