He declared he intended to depart July 8th 1925 from the port of New York on board the Coronia, intending to visit Ireland, for the purpose of "Genealogy and Ancestry", Scotland, for "Literature", and England, for "Literature and Agriculture". Where the pre-printed form stated "I do solemnly swear" John lined-through "swear", replacing it with "affirm". He was recorded as age 62, 5' 6" tall, blue eyes, grey hair, medium fair complexion, square chin, square face.^c
