Lester Ray Hanshaw, 81, of Ironton died Thursday at a local health center. The Lawrence County native was born July 22, 1922, the son of the late Bennie and Lottie J. Harmon Hanshaw.
He was the husband of the late Jennie Walbright Hanshaw.
He retired in 1967, after 26 years as a mechanic for Allied Chemical Nitrogen Division. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He attended Freedom Baptist Church and Coal Grove schools.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Brenda and Tennyson Hall and Kathy Hanshaw, all of Ironton; one step daughter, Donna Thomas of Ironton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary and Betty Hanshaw, Perry Hanshaw and Rick and Janet Hanshaw, all of Ironton; one sister, Hazel Carpenter of Ashville; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be noon Saturday at Phillips funeral Home, with the Rev. George Cade officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
