George was shown in the 1850 census, Londonderry District, Ross County, Ohio, living in the household of his sister Rebecca:3

John Francis, age 23, born in Ohio; farmer; $860 real estate.
Rebecca Francis, age 41, born in Ohio; cannot read or write.
Mary J. Francis, age 3 months, born in Ohio.
Isaac Hinshaw, age 68, born in North Carolina; farmer; $1180 real estate.
George Hinshaw, age 58, born in North Carolina; farmer; $320 real estate.
Living nearby were his brothers Nathan4 and Rueben.5  

George Hinshaw died Nov 7 1855, buried Peecher Cemetery, north of Londonderry, Ross County, Ohio.6  

George had prepared his will on May 11 1852, as follows:7

In the name of God Amen,

I, George Hinshaw, of the Township of Liberty, in the County of Ross and the State of Ohio. considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, and being of sound and disposing mind and memory, blessed be almighty God for the same do make this my last will and testament, in the manner and form following, that is to say;

First, I give and devise unto my nephew, George Hinshaw, the son of my brother Nathan Hinshaw, of said Township and said County, the farm which on I now reside, situate in said Township and County, and being sixty-seven acres and fourteen holes in the southwest quarter of Section #1, Township 8, of Range No. 20, and also forty five and one half acres (45 1/2 acres) in the North-west quarter of Section 12, Township 8, Range 20.  

Second, I give and devise to my nephew, George Timmons, son of Shadrach Timmons of Eagle Township, in Vinton County, in said state, the farm upon which my brother, Reubin Hinshaw now lives and occupies a part of, situate in said Township and being the South east quarter of Section No. 2, Township 8, and Range 20.  

Third, It is my will, notwithstanding anything contained in the second item above, that my said brother Reubin, shall continue to occupy the part said quarter Section No. 2, now occupied by him. and upon which he now resides during his natural life, and I give and devise that part off said quarter Section No. 2 to him during his said natural life, if he sees proper, so long to occupy and reside upon the same.  But should he remove from or cease to reside upon the same, there I give and bequeath to him during his natural life, the sum of ten dollars annually, payable out of the issues and profits of the whole of said quarter Section No. 2.  

Fourth, It is my will also, should my brother Reubin cease to reside upon and occupy the said part of said quarter Section No. 2 or not that there be paid to him out of the sum and profits of said premise, devised to said George Hinshaw, the sum of ten dollars annually.  

Fifth, It is my will that all my first debts, funeral expenses, and all charges, be paid out of my personal estate.  

Sixth, I will and bequeath to my sisters, Sarah Litle, Jane Hobson, Rachel Timmons, and Rebecca Francis each the sum of fifteen dollars, to be paid out of my personal estate and effects, and to my brother, Nathan Hinshaw, fifteen dollars payable out of my personal estate and effects.  

Seventh, This is my will, that all my personal property of every kind and description whatever be sold and converted into cash, and that all debts and rewards or claims of every description whatever due or owing me, be collected or otherwise be reduced to cash, and after the payment of all and singular the matter aforesaid, that my executor shall put at interest The sum of three hundred dollars, and should my sister Sarah Litle be in need of assistance or in necessitory circumstances that from time to time during her natural life, apply such interest or such portion thereof or may be necessary to her benefit if at anytime such interest so to accrue, should be insufficient for her relief, there that he apply to her use such portion of said three hundred dollars as may be necessary.  

Eighth. This, my will that all the due my estate of what description soever, be equally divided between the children of my brother, Nathan and my sister Rachel Timmons the wife of Shadrach Timmons except said George Hinshaw and George Timmons who have been already here in provided for by the devise of real estate to them; and also that the said three hundred dollars directed to be put at interest or whatever may remain of the same and interest after the death of my said sister Sarah Litle, go to the children of said Nathan Hinshaw and said Rachel Timmons, share and share alike.  

Ninth. I do hereby nominate and appoint my friend Hiram Dixon, the executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other wills by me made.  

In testimony whereof I have here unto set my hand & seal this 11th day of May A.D. 1852.  

Signed and acknowledged by said George Hinshaw, as his last will and testament in our presence; and signed by us in his presence interlineation's being first made.
