"Time has hushed
your contemplating,
You have ended
hesitating,
Go now, dear Mother....
For lonely is your
Love, long waiting....
Just for you to come."
On Thursday, December 13, 2012, our Mother, Florence Marie, joined her true love, our Father Fred, in eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven. She was born on August 11, 1919, in St. Louis, Mo., of Welsh and Native American ancestry to Lawrence Avery and Marie Genevieve Blackwell. She lived most of her life in Houston, TX. In her youth she was a proud member of the Black Battalion drill squad of Sam Houston High School, and graduated in 1938 from the new Stephen F. Austin High School.
In her adult life she was employed by HISD, retiring as Secretary of Jesse H. Jones High School in 1975. She was a member of the congregation of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and also belonged to St. Martha's Guild. Florence Marie is survived by her daughter, Barbara Cash and husband Tommy, and her son, Ronald Henshaw and wife Linda; by 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Her request for cremation and internment in the same resting place as her husband will be honored by her family. A memorial service will be held for her in the Chapel of Angels, Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 21, 2012. The family extends thanks to Windsong Nursing Home, Pearland, TX., and to the Dr.'s and staff of Memorial Hermann Hospital SE for their loving care.
I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith......
