Shabbona Lake State Recreation area is located off Rt 30, just south of the town of Shabbona (SE of the the I-88, I-39 Junction). This is one of the newer, nicer, cleaner state parks that I've been to. For more information, you can contact the State Park at 1-815-824-2565.

Named after Pottawatomie Chief Shaub-e-nee. This man was a great friend of the early settlers in the area (risking his own life at times during the Winnebago, and Blackhawk Wars to warn and protect them). Gurdon Hubbard, in his autobiography refers to this gentleman very kindly. Unfortunately, his land was stolen from him by settlers and he died penniless.

Trip Report: "I camped at Shabbona Lake over a weekend in late July. While all the bass I caught were small, the bluegill fishing was great. I caught and released something like 30-40 bluegill (none under 6", most bigger) per day for two days. The best action was on the fly rod in the evening, with poppers, sponge spiders, and Muddler Minnows fished in the surface film. The fishing was great both from shore and from my kayak- I found it was best to go to a small cove and fish it as one would fish a small pond." Grashopr1@aol.com
