Born about 1797, North Carolina.1,3,4,5
He married Margaret Triggett.5 Margaret was born about 1793, North Carolina.1
William and family were shown in the 1850 census (Aug 23 1850), Forsyth County, North Carolina:1
William Hinshaw, age 52, born in North Carolina; farmer; $125 real estate.
Margaret Hinshaw, age 57, born in North Carolina.
It is unknown who were the parents of William and Martha Trougott in the 1850 census above, but they were likely from one of Martha's Triggett family members.6 It appears that William and Martha were adopted into this Hinshaw family, as in later years they both were shown in records as Hinshaws.
William and family were shown in the 1860 census (Jun 13 1860), Broadbay District, Forsyth County, North Carolina:3
William Hinshaw Sen, age 63, born in North Carolina; farmer; $550 real estate; $200 personal property.
Margaret Hinshaw, age 66 [unclear], born in North Carolina.
Living nearby in 1860 was the family of (apparently adopted) son, William T. Hinshaw #6976.7
William was shown in the 1870 census (Aug 3 1870), living alone near Salem P.O., Winston Township, Forsyth County, North Carolina:4
Hinshaw, William, age 72, born in North Carolina; farmer; $450 real estate; $100 personal property.
Since William was living alone in 1870 it's reasonable to conclude that Margaret had probably died by then.6
