Born May 27 1890, Danvers, McLean County, Illinois.4,6,7,8,9,10,11  

On Jun 5 1917 Don A. Hinshaw, age 27, registered for the World War I draft in McLean County, Illinois.  He declared he was born May 27 1890 in Danvers, Illinois, and was then still residing in Danvers, Illinois where he was single and a mechanic employed by the L.M.S. Motor Co. of Bloomington.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, brown eyes, dark hair.9  

He married Esther Irene Victoria Johnson3,4 [Irene Esther Johnson10], about 19173,4.  Esther was born Sep 30 1897, Illinois.3,4,10  

Esther was on only child, the daughter of Swedish immigrants who spoke only halting English.3  Esther (Irene) was inconsistent in the order of her given names, often using a different name order at different times (even to the point that her son Maurice was confused about exactly what her name was).3  

Don Andrew and Esther Irene were shown in the 1920 census (Jan 8 1920), 108 North Elmwood, Peoria, Peoria County, Illinois:10

Hinshaw, Donald A., head-of-household, age 29, born in Illinois; parents born in Illinois; rented home; occupation: garage mechanic.
Hinshaw, Irene E., wife, age 22, born in Illinois; parents born in Sweden.

Don Andrew and family were again shown in the 1930 census (Apr 5 1930), 1115 West McClure Avenue, Peoria, Peoria County, Illinois:4

Hinshaw, Don A., head-of-household, age 39, born in Illinois; father born in Illinois; mother born in Pennsylvania; first married at age 27; owned home ($7000 value); radio in home; occupation: auto mechanic, Lincoln Motors; World War I veteran.
Hinshaw, Irene E., wife, age 32, born in Illinois; parents born in Sweden; first married at age 20.
Hinshaw, Maurice, son, age 9, born in Illinois; parents born in Illinois.

Esther died Jul 6 1937, Peoria, Peoria County, Illinois.3,12  

He then married Stella Pearl Hays, about 1938.3,13  Stella, daughter of William T. Hays, was born Jan 5 1898, Corydon, Indiana.13  

Stella had been a friend of Esther Irene, but she and Don Andrew did not strike up a relationship until after Esther Irene had died.3  Stella had been previously married, and had a son who died from a heart attack at age 15.3  

Stella died Dec 24 1947, Peoria, Peoria County, Illinois; age 49.12,13,14  

He then married Helen Maxine -.15  Helen was born 1925.15  

Don Andrew remarried to the nurse who had been taking care of Stella during her illness prior to her death.3  The nurse was described as a "young thing" - about the same age as Don Andrew's son Maurice.3  Her last name is thought to have been Henderson.3  

Don Andrew and family lived outside of town near Farmington, Illinois.  Don was an auto mechanic for Ford Motor Company, working on Lincolns and Fords.3  

In 1954 Don was still living near Farmington, Illinois.16  

Helen died 1956, buried Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington, Fulton County, Illinois.15  

In 1966 Don was living in/near Peoria, Peoria County, Illinois.8  

Donald Andrew Hinshaw died Mar 19 1966, buried Section 8, Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington, Fulton County, Illinois.7,8,11  Medical: Don died from cancer.17  

Don Andrew's obituary appeared in a local newspaper as follows (probably from the Peoria Journal Star):18

Donald Hinshaw, Retired Miner, Dies At Age 75
Donald Andrew Hinshaw, 75, of 1403 N. Madison St., Peoria, died at 11 a.m. yesterday in Proctor Hospital.  Services will be announced by Anderson Funeral Home, Farmington.  
He was born in Danvers, May 27, 1890, a son of Charles and Anna Smith Hinshaw.  
Surviving are a son, Maurice Hinshaw of Gaithersburg, Md. and a brother, Ben Hinshaw of Danvers.  His parents, eight brothers and four sisters died earlier.  
He was a veteran of World War I and a member of American Legion.  He was a retired strip mine employee.  Mr. Hinshaw lived in Peoria the past eight years and was a member of Farmington Baptist Church.
