Rita's mother died when she was only four months old, and her father died when she was only two years old. She then went to live with her grandmother Nancy L. Godwin Hinshaw.3
She married Charley Vaughn3,7 [Charlie Vaughn6], Feb 25 19143,7, East Prairie, Mississippi County, Missouri3,7. Charley, son of Lee Vaughn2,7,8, was born Jul 27 18952,7,8 [Jul 27 18946], East Prairie, Mississippi County, Missouri2,7,8.
Rita and Charley apparently divorced.9 On Jun 5 1917 Charley Vaughn, age 22, registered for the World War I draft in East Prairie, Mississippi County, Missouri. He declared he was born July 27 1895 in East Prairie, Missouri, and was then still residing in East Prairie, Missouri, single and a self-employed farmer. He was recorded as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, red hair.8 Charley died Jan - 1968.2,6
At some point in time Rita May Hinshaw changed her name to Rita Helen Schultz. It is not known if it was due to a marrage. The name change is shown on the birth certificate of her son, John Peter Hayden, born in 1933.2
Rita was shown in the 1920 census (Jan 8 1920), living in (or staying in) a boarding house in St. Louis, Missouri:10
Schultz, Helen, boarder, age 22 [or 27 - unclear], born in Missouri; parents born in Missouri; single; occupation: shoemaker, shoe factory.
Rita was shown in the 1930 census (Apr 2 1930), living in (or staying in) a lodging house in St. Louis, Missouri:11

She then married James Earl Hayden3,12, Jun 30 19333,12 [Nov 26 19302], Ogden, Weber County, Utah3,12. James, son of Peter Hayden & Mary Evalena Carrico, was born Dec 15 1901, Graves County, Kentucky.2,6,12

On Feb 28 1956 Rita H. Hayden, aka Rita May Hinshaw, aka Helen Hayden, applied for a Social Security number. She was then residing at 718 N. 62nd St., East St. Louis, Illinois, and was unemployed. She declared she was born Jan 1 1897 in Dorena, Mississippi County, Missouri and her parents were John Samuel Hinshaw and Sarah Elizabeth Burton.1
Rita May Hayden was a beneficiary of Luther Hinshaw's will (1960), and was then living at 718 N. 62nd Street, East St. Louis, Illinois.14
James died Jun 30 1977, East St. Louis, St. Clair County, Illinois; buried Jul 1977, Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 10101 W. Main Street, Belleville, St. Clair County, Illinois.2,6,12
In 1983 Rita was living in/near Waterloo, Monroe County, Illinois.6
